Xolotl, half-man, half-bat, will transport the soul of a dead child out of his body through a series of strange dreams. Our aim was to adapt an ancestral Aztec myth called the Mictlan. The Mictlan is a series of violent stages that dead people had to go through, so that their souls could rest in peace. Xolotl, a divinity sometimes described as a dog, sometimes as a bat, accompanies the deceased on this journey. The more sins committed during a lifetime, the more violent is the journey. But as we're following a young child, we wanted Xolotl and the environnement around them to accompany him as delicately as possible in this ceremony.
